Mike asked:

Why can you not find a market for BIG men sizes for apparel? There are too many of us that would enjoy and appreciate that. Say around a 5X?

Response:

We want to serve BYU students and feel your pain in seeking 5X clothing. To see how badly we are neglecting you and your friends, we checked the offerings at a few local clothing stores. Men’s Wearhouse carries no 5X, but they do have two items in 4X. 5X can be ordered, however. Eddie Bauer carries nothing larger than 2X but offers larger sizes online. Old Navy also has no clothing beyond 2X. Mike, we bring you bad news. You want 5X? You’re going to have to go somewhere besides the BYU Bookstore and the men’s clothing stores in Utah Valley. Please keep in mind that while we do not stock 5X, we do carry textbooks, trade books, art supplies, rental movies, luggage, candy, computers, backpacks, office supplies, greeting cards, BYU sweatshirts,l Church books, bagels, fresh fruit, cold drinks, salads, sandwiches, and a host of other items in your size not carried by those other stores.) P.S. There is one bright spot for clothing to fit the well-muscled masculine frame. Dahle’s at 1754 South State in Orem specializes in providing duds for the big and tall.

Jean Ahlstrom asked:

I was wondering when you will offer the ""Seeing is Believing:" book for Old Testament by Carolyn Langford. I am a seminary teacher and I use her books to get ready for the new year. Thank you for your time. Jean

Response:

We have had some difficulty contacting Carolyn Langford but finally have connected (she was out of town visiting relatives). Short version. We will have SEEING IS BELIEVING in the store on Friday, July 20. Price: $22.50. Long version. You will be able to confirm the book’s arrival on our website byubookstore.com, then going to the CES menu (available July 16) under “additional CES materials.” Or you may drop by Church Books and special order it (or call in—422-3585) and a copy will be held for you. As a CES employee, you will receive a 20% discount on books until September 15.

clayton johnson asked:

Why, after having found our books for us, based on the courses we have registered for, can we not just click and buy the books? The site gives you options to go the bookstore, but not to buy the books. This makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Response:

Clayton, we have been exploring this possibility but have not yet been able to find ways to deal with the challenges. If you are interested in precisely what problems we have to overcome to do this, write again and we’ll supply details. The point is that we are looking seriously at offering this service and even have made an appointment and plane reservations to visit the University of Texas at the end of the summer to see how a university of like size has implemented a buy-online system. Watch this space.

François Deschamps asked:

This is more of an observation rather than a question. Obviously the Bookstore provides its goods and services with the objective to make money, but it also serves the student body at BYU. For those of us who know exactly which classes we will be taking ahead of time, why not go directly the college or department and ask for a book list with the respective ISBNs. I acquiesce that I fell into the habit of waiting until the week before school started to purchase my texts. Fortunately I learned my lesson and instead of spending $570 for my textbooks this Fall at the Bookstore, I am only going to spend $250. Just a thought. Have a wonderful day!

Response:

Congratulations, François! And thank you for sharing a new way to lower your personal textbook costs. We've been around the block a time or two, but we've never heard this idea before.

Bill Evans asked:

I just wanted to say I'm sorry about the angry post I posted a few minutes ago. My comments were not really appropriate. I really do appreciate how much hard work you put into this campus and how patient you are (and have to be) working in retail. Once again, my sincere apologies and thanks. Bill Evans

Response:

No offense taken, Bill. We're ready to take it on the chin when we deserve a swift blow, and we can absorb frustration without any rancor. In all honesty, we're glad you wrote. Keep in touch.
